From my farthest memory, there has always been one constant record. No matter how deep into Nirvana, and that 90's noise, I was in middle school, I'd still listen to it. Riding around on my bike listening to my cassette version on my walkman, that I got for Christmas when I was seven.
The Beach boys, now thats kind of obvious. And the record is really obvious if you know anything about me. It has my favorite '32 ford on the cover (Silver Sapphire) , so obviously now its Little Deuce Coupe.
^^That guy.I love that record. I'm not sure exactly what I love, be it the songs about cars, the lingo, or the harmonies, but its just perfect to my ears.
Hearing songs sung about car clubs, '32 fords, tuck and roll, chrome reverse wheels, white walled slicks. I dunno, I mean, I'm into cars, but I'm a lot more into music. This record just embodies both of those loves. I was indoctrinated with car lingo before I even really knew what a lot of it meant. Examples:
"A Stereophonic speaker set with vibrasonic sound"
"She rode a freight train west, all the way from detroit city"
"Chrome reverse rims with white wall slicks, and it turns a quarter mile in One-oh-Six. Door handles are off, but you know I'll never miss'em, they open when I want with a cellunoid[sic (spelling changed to make it flow)] system"
I mean, yeah, I was raised to know what tuck and roll meant, and to know what a lot of this meant, like a lot of peers.
This record wasn't forced down my throat either, neither was the hobby. I just loved it. I dunno.
To be honest, its a little fucked up, but I could go from dad blasting the beach boys on the tape deck in the garage, to throwing on The Velvet underground and Nico or Loaded right on after it. I dunno, thats why the velvets are almost as close to my heart as the beach boys.
I just wanted to put it out there that my favorite record is a piece of consumerist pop trash from 1963. Oh, its also written by a pop mastermind.
If you ever want to listen to this LP, just ask, I'll be more than happy to throw it on for you sometime, I have a reprint, but I'm searching for an OG pressing.
Then maybe we can listen to your favorite record, then best coast or wavves, ya'know, just to be ironic?
(as my Geography prof. says)
"Thats all I got"-
Wesley
P.s. I know he doesn't read it, but I guess I'd just like it to be public.
I love you, pops. I owe you more than you'll ever realize. More than the two grand I'm flip to you now anyway.

DITTO.
