I've been busy guys, I'm sorry.
I'll review some Half Rats eps in the near future.
I've been busy doing car stuff and bike stuff. Setting up a transmission swap in my '54 ford.
I've also just been thinking about life and where I want to be next year, and next semester, and what my plans are for the rest of me youthful years.
I'm just scared at this point.
I'll bring tunes sometime soon, when my life settles down a little bit. Good thing I dropped that econ class.
Sincerely splashing,
Wes

Leap Frog
I've been a busy boy with school, that is why I've been absent from my role as a poster on this thing that I post on.
I've got some albums to review in the next few weeks. I'll probably knock them out over spring break and post them when I can.
This year was a leap year, which makes the 2nd and third both fall on the weekend, which I'm going to have a lot of fun with.
Davey Jones died, and that makes me sad
Anyway, I've a midterm to study for.
Gotta run,

Valentine's Day
Today is valentines day, and if you're like me (and the odds of that are high because you're reading my blog), you might be single, or whatever I am. Despite being aware that this is a fake holiday, and a completely and utterly consumerist driven day, it still holds weight as being a "Day to be with your Love(r)."
I'm not. :/
However! I do love music, so during my class breaks (instead of eating or studying), I will share with you (my readers), some neat things. Mostly emo valentine's day songs.
1. Valentine - TGUK
The best song about losing a girl. "If you're sorry, why wage war? I'm not fully convinced, there's something wrong with this. Could another point of view--biased and untrue, tear me away from you? Will you be my valentine? If I'm a world a-way."
Its just the best. Especially for today. Its sad, but it has a tinge of love and a splash of remorse, and a dash of doubt. Its just the best song to describe a relationship.
2. Songs about your girlfriend
Just a really good song.
3. Ride Friendship - Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt
if you are lucky enough to be with a girl (or guy), that you really do care about, and don't mind looking a tad bit silly, then this is the boy. Off their first release, I love you I love you I love you and I'm In Love with you have the best day of your life, this song exemplifies love. "You make my heart explode." Thats about as cut and dry as you can get.
4. Ty Segall - You make the Sun Fry
Again, another song to have play with someone you love. Its just a true thing about love. Though its also about second chances. "Ever since a mighty man, made himself an iron hand--I was trapped inside of him, trying to get out. Oh won't you take me up a hill, and throw me in your coupe deville, and tell me that you love me still."
Ty made a mistake by being hard and getting an "iron hand." Though he, the In Love Ty, was trapped inside of himself, trying to break free from the stupor of hate. Then he proceeds to say the most beautiful things, "You make me so happy," "Our life is a story, won't you be my story girl?"
But the kicker is, the girl is so hot, and great, that she makes the sun fry, or atleast she makes Ty's Sun Fry, and thats all that matters.
5. Pigeon - Tennis
This one is self explanatory with the first line. "Been reaching for my baby." Its just a Love song about being in love.
6. My Heartbeat is Dying - The Raveonettes
7. Sometimes - My Bloody Valentine
8. When The Sun Hits - Slowdive
Sweet thing, I want you. Burns so fast it scares me. Mind games don't move me, gone so far don't lose me. It matters where you are. This song is for someone.
All of these songs are for someone.
Anyway, I hope everyone gets their valentine's day kiss, or whatever you're supposed to do on valentines day. I also hope that despite the consumerist nature of this day, we can all see that the silver lining is that everyone is celebrating (or hating) romance and love. Its a dying thing, and I know that people should live every day in love, but sometimes that doesn't get to happen. So embrace the one day that you can atleast act it. I'll do the opposite today, I'll act nonchalant, and indifferent to the pangs of the heart. I'm not alone, but I am little lonely.
Rave on,
Wesley

1 year
One year ago today, I got creeped on by a girl, because of a mixtape I made during the ice storm. Long story short. Fell in love with girl. Had great time with girl. Fought with girl. Made up with girl. I regret nothing.

March
March winds blew cold
And a girl I wanted to hold
I didn’t know who
Until I saw her and I just knew
I just knew that everything was right
I just knew what I wanted was in sight
I just knew that everything was right
I just knew that. I just knew.
Summer winds blew us together
Forever entangled by a sharp blow.
An arrow from an angles quiver
Never again will make me shiver.
She was a girl
I was a boy
We were in different places
And we had different faces
But I just knew that everything was right
I just knew that what I wanted was in sight
I just knew that everything was right.
I just knew that. I just knew.
Though love is like a clock.
Ticking until it stops.
We’ll wind it up again,
And the hands will touch our hearts.
I just know that I’m in love with you.
I just know that you’re in love with me.
I just know love.
I just know love.
some sappy song lyrics, guys.

If everybody had a surf-band...
Come play surf music with me
Well in the grand tradition that is this lo-fi surf pop world, there are bands. Most of them are average. Some really great. They all sound the same. No exception for Art Imperial, that drench their guitars in reverb, and vocals in echo and reverb. What they can also do, is write fun songs that are good, and have a drive to them.
In their Surf Suburban EP (that can be found <<>> ) for a pay as much as you want download. They write good songs. Starting with "When I'm With You (I feel dumb" which is an obvious play off a similarly titled Best Coast song. Though, despite the title, the only similarity is stylistically, and even then its minimal. These guys are a mix between Wa\/\/eS and BC, and they do it in a good way. I'd say they're like Japanese Motors or Sleeping Bags as well. Anyway, I digress. The song is poppy and fun.
The same goes for "My crystal." A song either sung about a girl named crystal, or he is using crystal figuratively, referring to his love as a crystal. Again, an upbeat pop song. Solid, good.
Then the Inbetweener is more of a depressing song, in an upbeat fashion. It features oohs and aahs, and some good guitar work.
The last song I'll talk about (there are a couple I'm omitting, but you can listen to them), is "The one You Choose." Its somber. Its a boy singing to a girl "I'm the one you choose to fulfill your needs..." and other sexual talk. Obviously a song referring to the way a boy looks at his role in a sexual relationship. He is the boy that she chose to meet her needs sexually, and otherwise I presume.
Anyway, kick ass album, and I paid 0 for it, and heard about it from Erin.

New Year
New problems, and new solutions.
The new year started off great, even though I was bummed that I didn't get to see my friends in STL. I got to spend it with Erin, and had a lot of fun at a party. Kicked ass.
Then there was a lot of hanging out, and fun stuff like that. Went on a Double date, which was kind of awkward but it was okay I suppose.
Got a sweet swastika oil filler plug for a 4 speed harley.
I also started classes. I dropped out of a really tough econ class, and am instead taking "women of music" which looks to be interesting!
I went to the children's museum on MLK day with Erin, and that was a lot of fun too. All around funski.
It also froze me the fuck in my house, so I can't really do anything, besides homework which is lame, but whatever.
I learned that I do have some regrets, and I hope to glaze over them enough to the point that they just exist and aren't really regrets.
I can't wait for spring.
I'll have music soon.
Forever,
Wesley
p.s. I'm writing songs and stuff for music projects. Excite.
p.p.s. Never wrote about last year. I mean, I did. I just won't post it on here. I don't think its really appropriate to post, because I did a good job of keeping up with the going ons in my existence.
P.p.p.s. I'm kinda done writing about myself. I'll do it occasionally, but I'm going to go to what I really wanted to do with this blog, write about tunes. I'll start that tomorrow.

Chrimbus 2k11
While christmas hasn't exactly come yet, my friends have all done our little christmas. It started about a week ago with the crew exchanging gifts and hanging out. It was a fun day, everyone was happy, and it all was beautiful.
Then this past sunday I gave my gifts to Erin for christmas and she really liked them. Then yesterday we went ice skating, and she did Live Action Chrimbus, which consisted of going to circle center and picking out clothes that look good on me. The ice skating was a lot of fun, despite the fact that I have an awesome blister on my heel. The live action christmas was fantastic. Erin did a great job, and I really like the clothes. I look really really good.
Also, we spent a while driving around indy, mostly because I was having problems figuring out where the fuck to go!
Then we ate at Yats on Mass. Ave, then went back to my house to watch elf and play guitar.
Happy holidays,
Wesley

Top 11 of '11
These may not be the best records of 2011, but they're my favorites, or at least the ones that I listened to the most.
1. Ty Segall – Goodbye bread
Ty Segall could have simply made "Melted pt.2." and I would have been happy. This year I got way into ty segall, and the whole SF scene. This is a pop record, and will probably be the opus of this wave of garage rock revival.
2. Cults – Cults
She can't sing live, but she can put a record together. I listened to the abducted single around march and kept trying to find the album somewhere. I did eventually and listened to it and it became a favorite. #vcard
3. Drums – Portamento
I'll be honest, I only liked the "Lets go surfing ep" and hated everything after that. Until I actually listened to it. The drums keep churning out fantastic pop songs, and I've since listened to their self titled debut, and this record constantly. Solid efforts.
4. Seapony – Go with with me
I found out about seapony from Jeannette at the Miscreant's Mixtape, and it was right up my ally. Lo-fi girl pop songs about love and hate. Thats pretty much all there is to say about it, its fucking brilliant.
5. Raveonettes – Raven in the grave
I was stoked to hear the raveonettes were going to release a new album. Floored. I was expecting another lust lust lust, but that didn't happen. I didn't know they were about to break up, I didn't know much about the life of the Ravonettes other than the recharge and revolt single I listened to on their myspace. Anyway, my girlfriend at the time bought me this album for my birthday, and it is not only one of my favorite records, but also one of my favorite things. Good job Ravonettes, and thanks again Erin.
6. Yuck – Yuck
Its really tough to pinpoint who they're ripping off, of they're just ripping off every shoegaze band ever. I'm not complaining. Every shoegaze band sounds the same anyway, and these guys take the nu-gaze genre a step further. Very solid record that I wrote about previously this year, very great songs.
7. Real Estate – Days
Much like the drums, only to a more extreme extent, I fucking hated real estate. I thought they were another one of the fuzzy-buzz alt-boy surf rock bands that were going to cash in on the trend. Much like the rest of my life this year, I was wrong. Its a super great record. thats really all I can say, it just super great.
8. Hunx and his Punx - Too Young to be in love
I didn't really like Hunx and his punx first record, it was just a little too raw for my likings (at the time). This album, on the other hand, is polished. As polished as a lo-fi band can be anyway. Super great songs, and super production.
9. Wavves - Life Sux Ep
Wavves release a couple of newly recorded old songs, and a couple of stellar new songs. Good ep! Hopefully means a great new record is coming out!
10. Bass Drum of Death – GB city
They sound like Ty segall. They're great.
11. Tennis - Cape Dory
Probably one of the albums I listened to most this year. Its full of great songs and everything else. Its just magical. It is summer. It was 2011's Crazy for You, and Tennis didn't break through with it. Next year will be a big year for tennis, I'm sure.
Splashin' on into the new year,
Wesley
Honorable mentions; Red Fang – Murder the Mountains, The War on Drugs – Slave Ambient, the Vandelles- Summer Fling ep, Dum Dum girl – he gets me high ep, Blouse – Blouse, and Metronomy – The English Riviera

This year.
Everything that happened this year, good and bad, is exactly what I needed to have happen to me. This year, as hellishly as it got, was a good year. I'll write about the whole year soon, and I'm excited to. I have a lot of fond memories.
I know I won't forget, but I just wanted to say it before I wrote anything important. The first person and last person I need to thank for this year is Erin. Erin, thank you for dating me, breaking up with me, and making me go through what I did (good and bad). This is a post for you, because I don't do it that much anymore. I don't write you long letters trying to beg forgiveness, or express my feelings. I shouldn't have in the first place. I just want you to know that I love you. Regardless.
Thank you.

Music. Nail Salon Radcity
Alright, finally. Here it is. Music.
Nail Salon, hailing from the B.C. released a sweet little EP in 2008 called Radcity. Its a nice mixture of indie rock and electro mentalities. The stories are great, and they come off with a very fond nostalgic feel. It also discusses the internal struggle of growing up as a whole, such as the first lines"Tape Deckz": "growing up is giving up good things/ good things like laughing in running/ Growing up is giving up good things/ I hope I'm never 16." Which the narrator finally changes his mind set as he gets older in the story of the record, in the song "Street Fighterz" "Maybe I've been wrong, all along/ maybe growing up isn't so bad after all. X2." It also should be noted that those are the first and last songs of the album, respectively.
In between those epiphanies are stories about being a kid, having fun, and growing. I'm very glad I found this ep when I did. I hope these guys eventually go somewhere. It isn't really the genre of music I'm heavy into right now, but it is brilliant.
Here is the stream, and you can download it too.

Identity
Untitled
By Graham Stickles
Formatted by me
By Graham Stickles
Formatted by me
He can only think
in vague connections--Plastered words
and thoughtful imperfections,
mental slivers of broken-mirror reflections,
puzzle pieces left on the floor.
He dies on a daily basis a
nd wakes to many different faces
in strangely new
familiar places—
"hello morning, it's me?"
His mind, a colander of dented silver
His memories, like pasta water rush down the drain
(a murky river) headed to some foreign sea.
Identity isn't for the crazy.
Just hold on to
whatever sturdy objects are nearby
and watch with absurd amusement
as the flood washes all your sins
and virtues
from you and leaves you there to dry.
New and free. Empty but alive.
The end
Back in business
I've got a few weeks to get my grades up to snuff, and do other stuff I want to do. Its snowing. I'm hungry. I'm gonna do music stuff again starting in December. This month went by so fast, and I've worked so much. Just on the wrong things.
Anyway, I gotta go back to working on homework and not shaving.
Goodbye,
Wesley

Weekends are never fun
Unless you're around here too.
I'll never forget that two week span when we were with each other constantly learning about our lives. Thats the You I met. I don't give a damn what you say.
There are times when you need to be there for friends that are there for you. There are times when you need to be with people you love, because they need you to be--even if they don't act like they do.
I owe a lot of people a lot of things. I owe everyone more than I'll ever be able to repay. I give them all the love I can give.
I love you all,
Wesley
Eventually I'll post music again.

Dreams Come True
Sometimes dreams actually do come true.
I got my paper done last night, and everything fell into place. Saw my friends, they actually are the ones that made me get the paper done. I went to bed at 6 am.
I was driving around listening to music with a good friend, and it was the best. It was the absolute best. Then I was staying up talking with a couple of friends about life. I listened to records. I danced. I wrestled. I was happy. I realized that I have been happy for a while. I've my fits of depression, but the people around me snap me out of it. I love you all, I love you all more than I love myself. I get to live with a friend, and possibly friends next year, and it will be the best. I'm beyond excited. I'm scared we might hate each other if we start to live together, but I doubt that'll happen, even if we live together.
I don't have much else to say about last night.

But boys will be boys, and girls have those eyes that will cut you to ribbons sometimes. And all you can do is just wait by the moon and bleed if it's what she says you oughta do.
I know its hard to tell you this, here's looking at you kid.
Cease and desist.

I owe U
Nothing.
I'm kidding. I'll owe you about sixteen grand next year. Fuck it all, I'm going to a place where the people might not be "just like me," but at the very worst, there could be people I like.

T.s. Eliott Smith
Banging on the wall,
The pangs of it all.
Never ceasing to fire
On the innocents.
Intellectual agendas triumph
over nothing more than their ego.
Growing bigger everyday
Much like the debt they’ll never repay.
Institutions trap beautiful minds
Like foxes in a forest.
Skinning them alive,
Killing their spirits.
True wealth lives inside of us.
The collective that drives.
The heart that collides.
Wealth is in the heart.
Love will never pay rent.
Love will never feed your body.
Love will let you sleep at night
On a cold, piss-stained mattress.
I will sleep well.
I like writing poetry, because I can think I'm as good as T.s. elliot, and no one can argue that.
