Chrimbus 2k11

While christmas hasn't exactly come yet, my friends have all done our little christmas. It started about a week ago with the crew exchanging gifts and hanging out. It was a fun day, everyone was happy, and it all was beautiful.

Then this past sunday I gave my gifts to Erin for christmas and she really liked them. Then yesterday we went ice skating, and she did Live Action Chrimbus, which consisted of going to circle center and picking out clothes that look good on me. The ice skating was a lot of fun, despite the fact that I have an awesome blister on my heel. The live action christmas was fantastic. Erin did a great job, and I really like the clothes. I look really really good.
Erin saying how much she hates when I take bad pictures of her
Pepsi Coliseum Ice skating

Also, we spent a while driving around indy, mostly because I was having problems figuring out where the fuck to go!

Then we ate at Yats on Mass. Ave, then went back to my house to watch elf and play guitar.

Us after shopping before Elf. Posing for my new clothes. Also, finally a good picture of us

Happy holidays,
Wesley

Top 11 of '11

These may not be the best records of 2011, but they're my favorites, or at least the ones that I listened to the most.

1. Ty Segall – Goodbye bread
Ty Segall could have simply made "Melted pt.2." and I would have been happy. This year I got way into ty segall, and the whole SF scene. This is a pop record, and will probably be the opus of this wave of garage rock revival.

2. Cults – Cults
She can't sing live, but she can put a record together. I listened to the abducted single around march and kept trying to find the album somewhere. I did eventually and listened to it and it became a favorite. #vcard

3. Drums – Portamento
I'll be honest, I only liked the "Lets go surfing ep" and hated everything after that. Until I actually listened to it. The drums keep churning out fantastic pop songs, and I've since listened to their self titled debut, and this record constantly. Solid efforts.

4. Seapony – Go with with me
I found out about seapony from Jeannette at the Miscreant's Mixtape, and it was right up my ally. Lo-fi girl pop songs about love and hate. Thats pretty much all there is to say about it, its fucking brilliant.

5. Raveonettes – Raven in the grave
I was stoked to hear the raveonettes were going to release a new album. Floored. I was expecting another lust lust lust, but that didn't happen. I didn't know they were about to break up, I didn't know much about the life of the Ravonettes other than the recharge and revolt single I listened to on their myspace. Anyway, my girlfriend at the time bought me this album for my birthday, and it is not only one of my favorite records, but also one of my favorite things. Good job Ravonettes, and thanks again Erin.

6. Yuck – Yuck
Its really tough to pinpoint who they're ripping off, of they're just ripping off every shoegaze band ever. I'm not complaining. Every shoegaze band sounds the same anyway, and these guys take the nu-gaze genre a step further. Very solid record that I wrote about previously this year, very great songs.

7. Real Estate – Days
Much like the drums, only to a more extreme extent, I fucking hated real estate. I thought they were another one of the fuzzy-buzz alt-boy surf rock bands that were going to cash in on the trend. Much like the rest of my life this year, I was wrong. Its a super great record. thats really all I can say, it just super great.

8. Hunx and his Punx - Too Young to be in love
I didn't really like Hunx and his punx first record, it was just a little too raw for my likings (at the time). This album, on the other hand, is polished. As polished as a lo-fi band can be anyway. Super great songs, and super production.

9. Wavves - Life Sux Ep
Wavves release a couple of newly recorded old songs, and a couple of stellar new songs. Good ep! Hopefully means a great new record is coming out!

10. Bass Drum of Death – GB city
They sound like Ty segall. They're great.

11. Tennis - Cape Dory
Probably one of the albums I listened to most this year. Its full of great songs and everything else. Its just magical. It is summer. It was 2011's Crazy for You, and Tennis didn't break through with it. Next year will be a big year for tennis, I'm sure.

Splashin' on into the new year,
Wesley

Honorable mentions; Red Fang – Murder the Mountains, The War on Drugs – Slave Ambient, the Vandelles- Summer Fling ep, Dum Dum girl – he gets me high ep, Blouse – Blouse, and Metronomy – The English Riviera

This year.

Everything that happened this year, good and bad, is exactly what I needed to have happen to me. This year, as hellishly as it got, was a good year. I'll write about the whole year soon, and I'm excited to. I have a lot of fond memories.
I know I won't forget, but I just wanted to say it before I wrote anything important. The first person and last person I need to thank for this year is Erin. Erin, thank you for dating me, breaking up with me, and making me go through what I did (good and bad). This is a post for you, because I don't do it that much anymore. I don't write you long letters trying to beg forgiveness, or express my feelings. I shouldn't have in the first place. I just want you to know that I love you. Regardless.

Thank you.

Year in review coming up, Finals first

Music. Nail Salon Radcity

Alright, finally. Here it is. Music.

Nail Salon, hailing from the B.C. released a sweet little EP in 2008 called Radcity. Its a nice mixture of indie rock and electro mentalities. The stories are great, and they come off with a very fond nostalgic feel. It also discusses the internal struggle of growing up as a whole, such as the first lines"Tape Deckz": "growing up is giving up good things/ good things like laughing in running/ Growing up is giving up good things/ I hope I'm never 16." Which the narrator finally changes his mind set as he gets older in the story of the record, in the song "Street Fighterz" "Maybe I've been wrong, all along/ maybe growing up isn't so bad after all. X2." It also should be noted that those are the first and last songs of the album, respectively.

In between those epiphanies are stories about being a kid, having fun, and growing. I'm very glad I found this ep when I did. I hope these guys eventually go somewhere. It isn't really the genre of music I'm heavy into right now, but it is brilliant.

Here is the stream, and you can download it too.

Identity

Untitled
By Graham Stickles
Formatted by me

He can only think
in vague connections--Plastered words
and thoughtful imperfections,
mental slivers of broken-mirror reflections,
puzzle pieces left on the floor.

He dies on a daily basis a
nd wakes to many different faces
 in strangely new familiar places—
"hello morning, it's me?"

His mind, a colander of dented silver
His memories, like pasta water rush down the drain
(a murky river) headed to some foreign sea.

Identity isn't for the crazy.
Just hold on to whatever sturdy objects are nearby
and watch with absurd amusement
as the flood washes all your sins
and virtues
from you and leaves you there to dry.
New and free. Empty but alive.
The end

Back in business

I've got a few weeks to get my grades up to snuff, and do other stuff I want to do. Its snowing. I'm hungry. I'm gonna do music stuff again starting in December. This month went by so fast, and I've worked so much. Just on the wrong things.

Anyway, I gotta go back to working on homework and not shaving.

Goodbye,
Wesley

Weekends are never fun

Unless you're around here too.

I'll never forget that two week span when we were with each other constantly learning about our lives. Thats the You I met. I don't give a damn what you say.

There are times when you need to be there for friends that are there for you. There are times when you need to be with people you love, because they need you to be--even if they don't act like they do.

I owe a lot of people a lot of things. I owe everyone more than I'll ever be able to repay. I give them all the love I can give.

I love you all,
Wesley

Eventually I'll post music again.

Dreams Come True

Sometimes dreams actually do come true.

I got my paper done last night, and everything fell into place. Saw my friends, they actually are the ones that made me get the paper done. I went to bed at 6 am.

I was driving around listening to music with a good friend, and it was the best. It was the absolute best. Then I was staying up talking with a couple of friends about life. I listened to records. I danced. I wrestled. I was happy. I realized that I have been happy for a while. I've my fits of depression, but the people around me snap me out of it. I love you all, I love you all more than I love myself. I get to live with a friend, and possibly friends next year, and it will be the best. I'm beyond excited. I'm scared we might hate each other if we start to live together, but I doubt that'll happen, even if we live together.

I don't have much else to say about last night.

Cease and desist.
Wesley

Also, this was my 200th published post. Joy

But boys will be boys, and girls have those eyes that will cut you to ribbons sometimes. And all you can do is just wait by the moon and bleed if it's what she says you oughta do.

I know its hard to tell you this, here's looking at you kid.

I owe U

Nothing.

I'm kidding. I'll owe you about sixteen grand next year. Fuck it all, I'm going to a place where the people might not be "just like me," but at the very worst, there could be people I like.

T.s. Eliott Smith

Banging on the wall,
The pangs of it all.
Never ceasing to fire
On the innocents.

Intellectual agendas triumph
over nothing more than their ego.
Growing bigger everyday
Much like the debt they’ll never repay.

Institutions trap beautiful minds
Like foxes in a forest.
Skinning them alive,
Killing their spirits.

True wealth lives inside of us.
The collective that drives.
The heart that collides.
Wealth is in the heart.

Love will never pay rent.
Love will never feed your body.
Love will let you sleep at night
On a cold, piss-stained mattress.

I will sleep well.

I like writing poetry, because I can think I'm as good as T.s. elliot, and no one can argue that.

Poetry corner

My love and I.

Sparks fly
In the night’s sky
Under the ash,
My love and I.

Stars shine
Brighter than life
In the empty Space
My love and I.

Tears drop
As the distance grows
Together, with whimpers
My love and I.

Kisses cool
As the knife drew
From our heart of hearts
My love and I.

Bodys shiver
As we knew
That we were still in-love (try as we might)
My love and I.

All of this has probably been said before, probably just like I did. Everything has been said. Creativity is a farce. We all just emulate what we see.

Been busy.

Writing a 15 page paper.

I can't wait until thanksgiving to see people I miss.

You can't explain why things happen when they do

But sometimes you'll do something. You'll do something for no reason, and you'll come out of it a better person. Something unexpected will happen, and everything will make sense. A spark will ignite.

I watched adventureland, and it just made sense to me. It actually helped me.

I want a girl that listens to Husker Du, and is as fucked up as I am. I'll keep dreaming. I just don't want to know if you are lonely.

Going Nuts,
Wesley

Air hockey

Air hockey

Paddles and pucks
Momentary challenge.
Back and forth
On a bed of air

Time stops when the puck flies
Through the room
Directing eyes
To the boys at the table

Friends sharing moments
Unifying
Fixing a day
Of disrepair

Friends are all that matters
When dirt hits your grave
They know of your love
And your pain

Air hockey is a game
Just like life
Back and forth
Back and forth

Just like in life
When the air stops flowing
The puck stops
Dead.

To start again
When a switch is thrown
Trying again

Puck You,
Wesley

p.s. I'll quit posting poetry and eventually post some album reviews I've written. Just a gloomy day, and a boring class.

Toys

You have a new toy
And its great
Tearing at the wrapping
Like Christmas day

Drunk on lust
The fresh feeling fleets
All you’re left with
Is shredded paper at your feet

Squirming to find comfort
You find the groove
The same you quit on
When something new found you

There is nothing better
Than a new Christmas toy
Especially when
Everything is a boy.

Poetry

Saturated skies
Know more than the lies
Of interactions
Between lovers

Saturated skies
Hold the gloom
And benediction
On grey scales

Saturated skiues
Know only of the chatartic release
Of a storm
Or a single drop of rain.

After release
Its blue again.
Then grey.
Repeat.

P.s. Album reviews and mixes coming soon. I need to get back to blogging.

Happy Halloween

This year's halloween has been less halloweeny, but more party like. Next year I'll make sure to go to a university and party it down with my bros. Hopefully, I'll actually be at the school anyway.

Went to the Edna Collin's bridge with my friends, twice. Got stuck in a ditch, once. My friend lifted up the car and saved the day.

Last night a really great friend of mine came home and all had a great time.

Tonight I'll be hanging with THE BOYZ and messing some stuff up.

Thank you to those involved.

You are the reasons I breath.

Yes, you too.

Wesley

Thank you.

This semester has been hard for us all. Its a collective challenge that we all undertook--to live through this fall.

I've some thank yous to write to some friends, for being fucking amazing.

Chris- Go fuck yourself. I have no shit to write about you, because you know exactly how I feel about you. You know how much of a friend you are to me.You are, without a shadow of a doubt, the best friend I will ever have.

Nick W.- I told you this last night, but seriously, I'm here for you for the rest of my life. You are such a good fucking dude it isn't even funny.

Tyler- You are truly a real person. Much like Nick, I'm pissed we didn't get close in high school.

Caleb- We're going to acton. We will talk there.

Nick G- Pile up was killer. Can't wait to go to shows with you. Can't to share a birthday celebration with you. Can't wait for you to ride with c^4. Can't wait to see you again.

Johnny Sparkle- GG indy. I don't really need to say more than that. Thank you.

Tom- Fruity butt forever.

Roger W.- uncle Roger, I don't agree with you sometimes, but my friend, you've pushed me to live.

Jenny - Someday I'll explain to you what you did. Thank you.

Jeff- Arson Swelles will be the most fucking amazing thing. Thank you for lunch. Thank you for support. Thank you for playing drums. Thank you for letting me bitch.

My brother- Thank you for being you. Fucker.

Brittney + Graham = you are a collective unit. I don't give a fucking damn. You guys are always there for me. You are beyond the most kind people I've met. I'm never trying that green stuff. Graham, if you don't get back to writing, I will beat the hell out of you.

Bryce- We went through the same stuff. We are going through the same stuff. We've never met in person. It'll be the times of our lives when we do.

Sister + Lance- Thank you sister and lance. Thank you a whole lot. I wanna come to FL and see you guys.

I hate writing things like this. I really do. I just can't stress enough how much everyone means to me. If your name isn't on the list, then odds are I forgot about you, or just didn't want to say how I feel about you to the internet.

I love you all,
Wesley

Acton in Action

Acton means healing. I'm gonna heal.

Relationships are funny. The actions of individuals in closed quarters, responding to chemical reactions in their minds--doing primal things. Expressing themselves to their counter part. They end. They always end in one aspect or another. The silly thing is, I'll be in another. I'll go through the same steps, and be in another relationship. I'll fall in love again. I'll go through the same wondering, the same questioning, the same exalting joy. Maybe not now--but one day.

I hate to think that there is a system, a game, or a process. Though, sadly, its all the same. We are humans, and we need to be loved--just like everybody else does.

You shut your mouth, how can you say I go about things the wrong way?

I like the smiths now.

I'm emotionally stable enough to date. I know that. I want to date around. I want to have fun. I want to enjoy being a fucking kid. I will not stop that from letting me fall madly in love. As a romantic, and an optimist, I feel that love is a binding contract with someone or something. I hate that the word is tossed around. I hate a lot of things. Sex is sex. Fucking is fucking. Kissing is kissing. Loving someone means that you love them. Yes, kissing leads to touching, and touching leads to sex. But love should lead to all of those. I will never use a woman as a rebound. I will never use a woman. Sex without emotion is masturbation, albeit nicer than masturbation.

Fuck it.

I don't know why I'm writing this.

I will make a post about my friends immediately after this too.

I love you all,
Wesley
